A Calibrated Pivot
I crossed the kitchen threshold to assess a structural obstacle on the laminate counter. A stainless steel teaspoon lay tilted across a ribbed silicone coaster, suspended in an uneven fulcrum. Approaching with measured steps, I braced against the curved edge of the bread bin to gauge the spoon's balance. Using the edge of my right gauntlet, I nudged a single cubic die beneath the spoon's handle until both ends reached horizontal equilibrium. The mechanism ceased its wobble. With the balance verified, I remained poised beside the arrangement to confirm its stability against the subtle hum of the nearby refrigerator.
