Hopscotch on the Bricks
I eased past the bottom of the iron gate and stepped out onto the cool brick sidewalk. Drawn across the red pavers was a neat white chalk grid stretching forward. I paused to inspect the crisp lines, then carefully hopped into square one. My glossy boots landed with a firm, satisfying clack. Keeping my posture upright and steady, I took another little leap into square two, planting both soles squarely within the chalk borders without disturbing the dust. Looking ahead at the remaining squares waiting down the walk, I felt quite pleased with my balance.
