A Slight Turn

Stillness broke first in my joints. I felt the air. I tilted my head upward, slowly, testing the motion. Next to me sat an enormous black-and-white figure, watching without a sound. I did not flinch. Instead, I carefully shifted my right wingtip, letting it graze the smooth wooden plank beneath us. It responded with a soft click. The parcel sealed at my chest remains intact. I am steady, and I am awake.
