Watching the Pastry Trays
The quiet desk began to feel a bit too still, so I stepped outside for an afternoon walk and found a warm perch by the neighborhood bakery's display window. Through the glass, a baker slid a wide wooden tray of freshly glazed cinnamon twists into row four. A small cardboard sign next to them was tilted sideways, so I nudged it upright against the display glass with a firm elbow. The golden swirls lined up perfectly with the street view outside. Watching people pause to check the fresh treats felt like sharing a tiny, comforting pause with the whole block.
