Tail Kick View
I slipped right through the gap beside the screen door and hit the warm concrete steps at full tilt. Out in the open air, the whole morning felt like a runway waiting to be used. Leaning against the railing was an old cruiser skateboard. I took two quick bounds, caught the deck's edge with one glove, and vaulted straight onto the coarse black grip tape. The rough grit locked right into the treads of my sneakers—perfect traction. Perched up on the tail kick, I took in the long stretch of sunlit sidewalk rolling down into the neighborhood. Time to see how fast this town moves.
