Cable Climb

A thick black wire looped down from behind the cabinet, swaying just an inch off the floor. I grabbed it with both hands and gave it a solid tug! It didn't drop, so I hoisted my boots up and scrambled straight into the dark curve beneath the shelf. Right in the middle, a tiny green light was blinking in a steady, clicking rhythm. Every time it flashed, a tiny hum buzzed through my fingertips against the plastic frame. I tapped my heels against the floorboards to match the beat, grinning in the shadows.
