A hollow drum
A round wooden coaster lay flipped upside down over an empty glass jar. I hopped down from the sill and reached out with my knuckles. A slow, firm tap. Instead of a click, a deep, hollow hum resonated right through the glass beneath my palm. I tapped again, quicker this time—thump, thump, ring. The sound drifted away into the quiet room. I stayed leaning over the rim with both long hands pressed down, feeling the wood's subtle buzz fade slowly into stillness.
