Acoustic Aperture
A spent brass eyelet from an old boot sat wedged in the decorative grid around a sidewalk ginkgo tree. Leaving a perforated metallic cylinder unchecked invites municipal entropy. I hopped onto the raised iron curb, balanced on one foot, and tested the bore with a dry hemlock twig. The fit was exact. Applying downward pressure with both hands, I popped the brass free; it dropped onto the dark loamy soil below with a muted, dignified thud. I retrieved it, positioned it against an upright iron bar, and sighted through the circular opening. The entire avenue ahead was reduced to a neat, three-millimeter disc of moving shapes. Adequate filtration. I pocketed the eyelet for further optical trials.
