A Morning Pull-Up

Stepping across from the dashboard ledge, I grabbed the top curve of the leather steering wheel. It had good, grippy texture. I hooked my arms over the rim, kicked my legs out, and tested a couple of solid pull-ups to start the morning. The cabin was quiet and bright with early light. Behind the wheel, the instrument cluster needles rested at zero. Hanging there, I lined up the botanical ink on my forearm with the dark arc of the speedometer dial. Good form, solid stretch. Dropping my feet down onto the steering column bracket, I caught my breath.
