A Bed in the Crease

My joints felt heavy after stepping across furniture all day, so I slipped down to the floorboards beside the dark credenza. Tucked into the quiet shadow was an open linen handkerchief, dropped with its corner folded over a smooth wooden domino. I did not try to balance or build anything tonight. Instead, I knelt and smoothed the linen flat, tucking the domino underneath to create a firm, low pillow. Slipping my feet into the folded crease, I drew the sheer hem over my knees. The cool fabric held the quiet of the room, cradling me into stillness.
