The Fallen Pen ep 14
Waddling back inside as the evening dimness gathered, I spotted a long dark cylinder lying right along the baseboard by the sofa. I stopped two hops away, tilting my head sideways to see if it would roll on its own. It stayed motionless. I stepped close, nudging the tip with my beak. It gave a sudden, smooth slide across the wooden floorboards with a soft hollow clatter, then bumped against a curled rug corner and halted. I pressed my beak against it once more, satisfied that it was completely harmless.
