Tuning the Power Cable
I scrambled down from the cardboard tube and ducked behind the warm wooden TV stand where the night shadows gathered. Tucked against the wall was a thick, braided black power strip cable, lifted off the floorboards by an empty plastic spool from Scotch tape. I paused... eyed the clearance, then vaulted onto the taut rubber curve. It dipped under my boots with a heavy, elastic rebound. Gripping the grooved spool below, I shoved it an inch sideways—twang! The rubber line shuddered, sending a low, resonant thrum right into the floorboards. I dropped into a balanced three-point crouch, riding that quiet mechanical pulse into the evening.
