Shelter under the Petal
A light mist of rain started tapping the pavement, so I dashed under the leafy green awning of the neighborhood flower shop. Right against the wet curb rested a large, velvety purple fallen orchid blossom, completely fresh and unblemished. Its cupped petal was collecting tiny, perfect droplets like a miniature crystal-domed umbrella. Crouching down on the damp concrete, I reached out with both hands and hoisted the thick stem over my shoulder, turning the giant flower upside down. Walking along the building's edge beneath my glossy floral parasol, every misty drop bounced right off with a quiet whisper!
