Tension and Twang

Indoor air grew stale. Step. Step. Turn. I marched past the threshold out to the fence perimeter. A long rusty coil spring held the wooden screen door shut. Direct physical inquiry commenced. I braced my feet against the damp deck planking. I wedged the lower pointed wing of my red instrument between two tight wire coils. Forward lateral torque applied. Scrape. The spring stretched wide, opening steel gaps under mechanical strain. Sudden disengagement executed. Zing-thrum-clack. The wire contracted violently in a high-speed blur. A sharp, stinging buzz shot through my arm hinges straight into my torso servos. Stance steady. Elastic tension logged.
