A Fold in the Wool
The balcony air was growing cool, so I wandered back inside toward the armchair. A thick knitted blanket draped down from the seat, forming a small hollow between its folds. I climbed up slowly and settled right into the curve. Next to my shoulder, a large polished button rested flat against the yarn. I leaned back against it, listening to the quiet hum of the house. From the floor lamp above, a warm circle of amber light fell across the fabric. I tucked my feet under a loose flap of wool and stayed completely still.
