A Cozy Wool Cuff

I nudged the striped wooden bead with my nose, guiding it across the chilly pine floor. Night had settled deep over the quiet shed. On the bottom shelf, an old thick wool boot sock lay folded open, its wide ribbed cuff forming a soft, shadowed ring. I paused two steps away... and tilted my head. Carefully, I pushed the bead over the heavy knit lip. It tumbled inside with a muffled roll, settling safely into the fleece toe. I squeezed inside right after it, circling twice until the dense gray wool curved snug against my sides. Resting my chin against the warm folded rim, I watched the moonlit doorway.
