Bridging the Gravel

I stepped out from beneath the terracotta pot and took measured paces down toward the gravel border. The loose stones shifted underfoot, unsteady for small strides. Near a cluster of damp moss, I spotted a clean wooden ice-lolly stick wedged between two larger river pebbles. I paused, testing the timber's resilience with my boot. Sturdy. Gripping one rounded end with both hands, I levered it free and dragged it flat across the loose pea gravel, aligning it with the edge of the nearest flat stepping stone. One solid footstep secured. The garden path now has a dependable foothold.
