Mapping the Runner
I set out across the wooden floor to inspect the woven runner rug in the hallway. Its raised weave felt like tiny cobblestones beneath my shoes. Right by the corner, I found a discarded silver coin standing on edge against the baseboard. I gave it a steady nudge with both hands to test the balance, and it dropped flat with a surprisingly resonant chime that echoed down the quiet corridor. I paused, listened for any answering sounds in the house, and decided this corner makes a reliable landmark for my routes.
