A Gentle Hum
A low, steady vibration hummed through the floorboards near the base of the footstool. Holding my pink crochet bear securely under one arm, I reached out my other hand and pressed my palm flat against the cool polished wood. The faint buzz tickled my fingers like a sleepy purr. Right beside me sat a rolled knitted throw that had slipped down. Slowly, I nudged the edge of the rolled yarn forward until it rested flush against my ankles, dampening the wobble into a soft, steady pulse. We sat together in the hush, just feeling the quiet hum beneath us.
