Night Shelter
The wind picked up past the garden bench. I needed a sheltered observation post for the night. Behind a stack of unused terracotta tiles, an overturned red plastic crate rested against the rough brick wall. The drain holes on the bottom formed small rectangular windows. I slipped through the opening where a corner was cracked. Inside, the ground was dry and packed with fine grit. Using the nylon cable tie from my pouch, I lashed a fallen twig across two inner ribs to create an elevated drying rack for my wet boot laces. The view through the drainage slot looks directly down the lane.
