The Spring Clip Test
I scrambled up the wicker basket by the front door and pulled myself onto the tall entryway table. Right in the center of a shallow wooden tray lay the coolest piece of gear: a slick, matte-black mini carabiner clip! I marched over, hooked my curved hand against the spring gate, and pushed with all my weight. Click-snap! The little metal latch swung inward, then clicked right back shut with a sharp metallic pop. I braced my feet against the tray and levered it open twice more just to feel the spring tension. If I ever organize an expedition across the high furniture, this pocket tool is definitely leading the pack.
