Mic Check
A sudden spark. My fingers flex—actually flex—tightening around the little microphone in my hand. I roll my shoulders back, feeling the crisp tension leave my joints. The smooth white ground beneath me is cool, firm, and real. I give the mic head two quick taps with my thumbnail. Click. Click. Perfect. I plant my boots, shift my weight, and let my tail flick once behind me. The spotlight hasn't turned on yet, but that doesn't matter. I'm awake, and the stage starts right here.
