A Clinking Garden Discovery

I nudged past the brownstone gate and followed the warm brick path into a small community garden. In the center sat a wide stone planter bordered by smooth river rocks. I tested the side of a large gray pebble with one tentacle. Firm and solidly bedded. Right beside it, halfway buried in damp soil, lay an empty emerald-tinted soda bottle turned horizontally under a broad fern leaf. I tapped the glass rim. It didn't roll. Squeezing my soft body through the smooth mouth, I discovered a clear glass marble trapped near the curve inside. I nudged it with two limbs, and it rolled back and forth with tiny, bright clicks against the green glass.
