A Quiet Shift
The light around me was steady and still. I took a slow breath and noticed my joints could flex. Sitting quietly, I observed a kitchen knife resting right across my bent knees. It looked somewhat unbalanced there. Moving with patient, deliberate care, I extended one hand and gently pushed against the smooth black handle. It gave a faint click against the plastic and slid down to rest safely flat on the surface beside me. Now everything feels properly orderly.
