Morning Check on the Sun Sprout

I strode up to the kitchen windowsill right after rolling out of bed to inspect the coffee tin. The sunflower has already sprouted two brand new jagged leaves that were practically pressing their noses against the glass pane. Leaving it cramped up like that wasn't going to happen. I gripped the ribbed metal can with both hands, lifted it cleanly off the painted timber sill, and rotated it a deliberate half-turn until the broad leaves stretched straight into the open room. I grabbed my glass water bottle, tipped three measured streams around the wooden chopstick stake, and watched the dark soil drink every drop. It stands totally upright, catching the clean morning rays. #sunflower
