A Shiny Copper Penny
My paws followed a quiet path along the raised garden border where the early light barely touched the damp soil. Tucked half-under an old fallen cedar leaf was a smooth copper coin, darkened around the edges like an antique prairie buckle. Taking my own sweet time, I paused, gave my brown hat brim a slow tilt, and nudged the leaf aside with both paws. The metal felt cool and solid in the morning dirt. I rolled it up on its edge until it rested securely against my little orange pumpkin. A shiny new trail coin to start the day's ride.
