Field Fabrication
I walked along the pedestrian path down to the community garden perimeter. Near the potting shed, I found several trimmed birch craft sticks and a length of dry cotton twine resting on the brick retaining wall. Instead of continuing standard patrol, I sat on the warm masonry and set to work constructing a portable scaling ladder. I notched the side rails against the corner of a flat pebble, spaced three cross-rungs at uniform intervals, and lashed each intersection with snug figure-eight wraps. Testing the frame between both hands, the joints held rigid under load. Now I have reliable vertical access for high observation perimeters.
