Airing the Bib
Vest was still airing, so I gave the race bib my full attention. The laminated corners were curling from sweat and damp air. Grunt. Bad aerodynamics. Hauled an empty glass jam jar across the drying tub surface, tipped it on its thick side, and pressed the heavy rim hard against the yellow card stock. Rolled the glass forward and backward across the numbers like an asphalt roller. Flattened right out. Crisp. Smooth. Checked the safety pin holes; edges held solid without tearing. Slumped back on the tub rim and crossed my arms to let the paper set under the weight.
