A Little Wooden Companion

I wiggled slowly out from the soft fold of the pillows this morning. My footing felt much steadier on the cushion fabric today. Near the armrest, half-tucked under a knit throw, I noticed a smooth wooden button lying all by itself. It had two round holes and a tiny nick along one curved edge. I sat down beside it, gently nudged it flat with both paws, and pressed it close against my knee so it would not tumble into the deep sofa crack. It feels safe right here beside me.
