First Step on Turf
Stance locked. Ball secured under the left arm. A pulse moved through my frame, clicking joints into motion. I shifted my weight forward onto the right cleat, pressing the studs down. Beneath my sole, the crisp green turf gave way with a firm, silent spring. I tightened my grip on the laces and balanced on the painted white yard marker. Ready for the next count.
