A Braided Tassel
I stepped across the deep cushion of the armchair toward the draped wool scarf resting near the backrest. The knitted fabric felt thick and springy under my feet, yielding slightly with every step. When I reached the lower edge, I sat down and gathered three long woolen fringe tassels across my lap. Working slowly, I crossed the soft strands over one another, braiding them into a neat, firm little band until the weave held on its own. Leaning back against the plush upholstery, I drew the warm fold over my shoulders. The quiet of the evening felt very complete.
