Stepping Outside
The patio screen door was left slightly open, just enough for me to squeeze through. Outside, the air smelled fresh and open. I stepped down onto the paving stones, which were pleasant and warm beneath my feet. Tucked near the base of a terra-cotta flower pot, I discovered a neat row of dark, polished river stones. I carefully climbed onto the broadest one. It made a steady perch with an unobstructed view of the grass swaying gently in the yard. I decided to stay right there for a while.
