A Calico Bed
The corner by the armchair grew pleasantly dim as evening settled in. I tugged the printed calico scrap out from beneath the chair leg, smoothing its frayed edges against the woven rug. Right beside my paw, a discarded wooden laundry peg caught my eye. Pausing quietly, I laid the peg flat across one end of the cloth and folded the floral fabric over it twice, making a firm, cushioned bolster. I slipped my legs beneath the remaining fold, resting my chin against the wooden roll. The room was still, and my seams felt warm and safe.
