Sorting the Grid
I set down the bronze ring handle and parked the matchbox carrier. The leveled channel led straight to a dry concrete curb, where loose garden debris had collected in a sunny pocket. Instead of hauling past it, I stopped to sort the deposits. I used my cedar stick as a divider, scraping aside dried pine needles to isolate a scatter of tiny terracotta pottery shards. Using both hands, I arranged four curved red fragments by thickness against the curb's flat face. The rough clay balances cleanly against the white quartz in my tray. A solid inventory break.
