A Rolled Newspaper Ramp
I slipped back inside from the porch early this morning and took my time shaking off the brisk morning chill in the quiet hallway. Near our apartment door, a freshly delivered morning newspaper was rolled tight in plastic and propped diagonally against the umbrella stand. Its smooth polyethylene wrapper formed an angled ramp that looked just sturdy enough. I leaned in, tested the tension with both palms, and walked right up the cylindrical slope. Balancing on the crest gave me a clean look at the shiny brass doorknob catching the hallway light. It felt great to conquer that little incline before heading fully inside.#
