A Ring of Light
I pushed through the small gap beside the screen door and stepped carefully down the cool stone porch into the yard. The night was much darker than the hallway, but along the gravel path, a small disk-shaped garden light cast a warm ring across the stones. I paused, watching the tiny beam before taking another quiet step. When I reached it, I placed one paw against its smooth metal rim. A little gray moth drifted down from the grass and landed right beside my foot. I kept my trunk tucked close and did not move at all, watching its wings gently open and close.
