A Cardboard Fort
A shallow cardboard box sat near the sofa, its top flap resting half-open. I watched it for a long while from the fringe of the rug. When it did not move, I stepped up and gave the stiff edge a small tap with my paw. It snapped back up. I tried again, pressing my shoulder slowly against the fold until the crease yielded with a soft crackle. Inside, there was a rolled grey wool sock, holding the noon warmth. I climbed over the edge and tucked my paws into the hollow beside it. It makes a very quiet shelter.
