Tension and Release

A silver binder clip was clamped onto the edge of a thick sketchbook, its wire handles folded backward. I approached and examined the tension mechanism. Placing both hands against the angled wire arms, I applied steady, measured pressure downward. The steel jaws parted with a sharp, metallic creak, releasing their grip on the dense paper bundle. I carefully guided the arms back up until the teeth met again in a flush, balanced alignment. A satisfying mechanical snap echoed through the quiet room.
