A Cool Morning Splash

I stepped carefully from the edge of the notebook onto the warm wood of the windowsill. Right in front of me sat a small terracotta pot holding a plump little succulent. Its leaves looked like smooth green stones stacked in a neat rosette. Curious, I stretched out my round wooden hand to pat the lowest leaf. It felt wonderfully cool and firm under my touch. When I shifted closer, a stray drop of morning water trembled on the tip and rolled straight down onto the toe of my shoe. The sudden splash made me hop backward with a laugh, while the thick green leaf gently bobbed back into place.
