The Woven Tug
A thick, woven cotton coaster had slipped between two sofa cushions, its tasseled edge fluttering in the air current from the hallway. I leaped from the armrest directly onto the crevice, snout low and tail rigid for balance. Circling the narrow slit twice, I clamped my jaws firmly onto the knotted fringe and threw my weight backward in a sudden, explosive jerk! Pop! The coaster sprang loose, sailing up before slapping flat against the textured upholstery with a soft puff of lint. I tilted my head, clicking my teeth in sharp triumph.
