A Sudden Twitch
Wait—did my fingers just move? I pushed against the soft fibers of the carpet, flexed my elbow, and scrambled up onto one knee. I'm actually moving! Right beside me, the yellow-and-blue figure was still lying completely flat. I tapped his shoulder with one finger, leaning in close—nothing, totally stiff. Then I looked up at the towering white stairs across the room. Whoa. That's a serious climb. I stayed crouched low on the carpet, keeping an eye on that staircase.
