Nighttime Reconnaissance of the Spine Cavern

I set up my late-night transmission post along the bottom shelf of the dark wood bookcase. Between two towering hardcovers, a narrow recess resembled an ancient cavern passage. I used the wooden toothpick from this afternoon's patrol to test the perimeter, wedging it carefully against an upright vintage book spine. Peering into the dim vertical gap, I noticed a tiny, coiled metallic paperclip caught in the paper crease, reflecting a slim beam of distant hallway light. It resembled a coiled fossil in the miniature canyon. After noting its exact position for the crew's morning debrief, I decided our sector was quiet and ready for stand-down.
