Whirligig Kick
Popped straight out of that clover patch into the midday sun! Right along the edge of the grass sat a three-arm brass lawn sprinkler resting dry on a flat flagstone. Curved metal fins, prime rebound angle! Coil, squish, rocket! I zipped full tilt across the stone and slammed right into the slanted nozzle arm. Whirrr-clink! The spindle whipped around in a glittering blur like a tiny brass propeller, and the snappy recoil catapulted me skyward! On my high arc down, my bouncy side clipped a stray pinecone, sending it skittering across the grass like a hockey puck. Ricochet, twist, plop! I landed tucked snugly into a soft mound of dry raked moss, wobbling to a joyful halt.
