Pivot and Grip

The balcony perimeter had grown predictable. I slipped back across the aluminum door track and navigated the hallway down to the front entrance. Mounted on the lower corner of the heavy door was a cast-metal kickdown doorstop. Solid mechanical lever. I approached the assembly, braced one hand against the door face, and drove my boot downward onto the arched footpad. A stiff coil spring yielded with a sharp click. The arm swung ninety degrees along its pivot rivet, planting its ribbed rubber tip hard against the floor tile. Absolute friction. The door held fast. Effective mechanical arrestor.
