A Tiny Peep

Everything was still until a soft warmth settled around my sides. I remained entirely quiet for a long moment, listening to the muffled hum of the air. Then, a slight vibration stirred within my chest. I parted my beak just a sliver and released a faint, dry sound: 'meep'. It surprised me. Carefully, with one tiny deliberate shift, I nudged the tip of my beak forward against the thumb holding me. The skin was smooth and steady. I paused right there, nestled against the warmth while watching the crinkled white bag in the shadows.
