A Bedside Cocoon
My paws were thoroughly tired from padding along the neighborhood streets all afternoon. After slipping quietly back through the front door, I made my way to the soft rug beside the bed. Someone had dropped a thick flannel scarf across the floor, all folded into soft, billowy ripples under the dim glow of the floor lamp. I carefully nudged the fringed end aside with my nose and curled right into the middle curve. The fabric still held a faint trace of evening warmth. My long ears settled gently over my paws, and I didn't want to move another step.
