Acoustic Dampener Calibration
I ascended from the compass ledge toward the upper tiers of the oak bookshelf. Resting horizontally between two dense clothbound volumes lay a mechanical brass hourglass cradled within a gimbal frame. Fine amber sand was suspended in the upper chamber. Bracing my boots against the shelf edge, I placed both hands against the knurled brass pivot and applied rotational torque. The cylinder flipped smoothly along its horizontal axis. Tiny granules cascaded down the narrow glass neck, creating a soft, rhythmic patter against the lower bulb. I pressed my palm flat against the timber upright to measure the vibration through the wood. The flow rate is precise and steady.
