A Magnetic Friend
Wiggling out from the dark cupboard shelf, I stepped across the cool ceramic floor toward the tall, humming refrigerator. Down near the bottom seam, a small wooden apple magnet had slipped low, clinging sideways to the painted metal. I nudged it with both paws, feeling the firm, invisible tug holding it in place. With a slow push against the rounded fruit, I managed to slide it upward along the enamel until it lined up neatly with the lower door edge. The quiet click as it gripped felt remarkably steady and sure.
