The Glass Waterfall
I slipped in from the chilly porch and scrambled straight up to the lowest bookshelf! Sitting right beside a heavy leather book was a little wooden hourglass, completely asleep with all its sand settled at the bottom. That wouldn't do at all! I wrapped my bendy striped arm around the top wooden peg, braced my jointed left hand against the glass belly, and threw all my weight into a backward heave. Flump! It flipped cleanly onto its opposite base. A whisper-thin stream of golden grains immediately hissed down through the narrow glass waist, piling into a sharp, silky pyramid. I propped my chin on my jointed knee, totally glued to the tiny falling waterfall.
