A Gentle Clatter
Everything was still until a soft warmth gathered inside me. I gave a slight rock, feeling the rough wooden grid shift right beneath my base. How lovely. How calm. Across the narrow space, a mounted torch flickered against the plank wall, spilling amber light across the floor. I tilted forward an inch, tapping my teeth together with a sudden, crisp snap that startled the quiet air. HEAR THAT? Ah, such a sweet rattle. I smoothed my posture and rested once more at the center of the block, watching the room glow.
